Any elastomer part in direct or indirect contact with food must be manufactured from raw materials that comply with current regulations: European Regulation (EU) 10/2011, the general framework of Regulation (EC) 1935/2004, and sector-specific standards such as FDA 21 CFR for export markets. Compliance is established through specific migration testing, not merely by a supplier declaration.
Resistance to cleaning and sterilization processes
Food processing lines are subject to intensive cleaning cycles: CIP with alkaline or acidic detergents, high-temperature cleaning, steam sterilization (SIP) up to 140°C, and disinfection with peracetic acid or chlorine. Elastomer parts must withstand these repeated cycles without swelling, chemically degrading, or releasing particles into the system.
Detectability and foreign body contamination prevention
In industries where physical contamination is a risk, manufacturers require that any part capable of falling into the production flow be detectable, either by X-ray or metal detectors. Detectable silicone formulations (blue or green with detectable fillers) meet this requirement without altering the mechanical properties of the part.
Mechanical performance in humid and pressurized environments
Food processing equipment subjects seals and membranes to combined stresses: dynamic pressure, abrasion, constant humidity, and thermal shock between production and cleaning phases. A seal failure on an aseptic line can lead to batch contamination, with the associated economic and regulatory consequences.

02Do you offer detectable silicone parts for lines subject to foreign body control?
Yes, upon request. Detectable silicone formulations are available, typically in blue or green, with fillers that allow for detection by X-ray or vision systems. These formulations maintain their mechanical properties and food contact compliance. They can be applied to most geometries produced by molding or extrusion.
03Are your seals resistant to CIP/SIP cycles with alkaline detergents?
Yes, under standard food industry cleaning conditions. However, resistance depends on the concentration of cleaning agents, temperature, and cycle frequency. For particularly aggressive cleaning protocols, we recommend providing us with the technical data sheets of the products used so we can validate the most suitable formulation.
04What service life can be expected from a silicone seal on a packaging line?
Service life depends on actual operating conditions: temperature, pressure, frequency of cleaning cycles, and the nature of the products in contact. Under standard conditions, a food-grade silicone seal has a significantly longer service life than an EPDM or NBR seal subjected to the same stresses. We can estimate the theoretical service life based on the process parameters provided by the client.
